A Letter in Mind – A Sense of Place

linking science, art and solidarity.
Art is a weapon of change and reflection.
Following the huge success of The National Brain Appeal’s previous three art exhibitions, ‘A Letter in Mind’ returns to gallery@oxo for a fourth year with the theme ‘A Sense of Place’.
This year’s exhibition comprises over 350 artworks which use a simple envelope as a starting point. These include beautiful, moving and thought-provoking pieces from the international art world and places as diverse as Peru, Goa and Budapest. A host of well-known artists have donated new works, including Grayson Perry, Bob and Roberta Smith, Jessica Voorsanger, Frank Kiely, Gill Rocca, Natasha Kidd, Harry Pye; illustrator Chris Haughton; actors Kevin Eldon, James Fleet, Phyllida Law and Sophie Thompson; comedians Jo Brand and Jenny Eclair; and architects Laurie Chetwood and Amin Taha.
The show also includes contributions from artists who are affected by a neurological condition – either personally or through their families and friends. The breadth of medium and interpretation of the theme ‘A Sense of Place’ has again produced an extraordinary range of engaging work. Artists have showcased places important to them personally, socially, historically or geographically.
Each artwork is exhibited anonymously and available to buy for £85 in aid of The National Brain Appeal. The artist’s name and biography will only be revealed online when sold.
As always, proceeds from A Letter in Mind will be used to help the one in six people affected by neurological conditions. Our vision is to improve the outcome and quality of life for everyone with a neuro disorder by funding pioneering research, providing access to the latest technology for expert diagnosis and treatment, and training tomorrow’s leading clinicians. We want to provide even better support for our patients, visitors and staff. Donations help fund life-saving equipment, life-changing research and better facilities for all – above and beyond what the NHS can provide.
